Grun is one of the forgotten titles from the black-and-white independent explosion of the late 80s, when small publishers launched an array of obscure series that quickly faded from view. Many of them were anthropomorphic books trying to capitalize on the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Created in 1981, the dog-faced secret agent Grun actually appeared before the Turtles, and its science-fiction setting already separates it from its anthropomorphic peers. A clandestine law-enforcement group called the Bureau of Silent Light on the planet Toskin employs Grun. Grun is part James Bond spy parody and part Blade Runner sci-fi police story written with British wit.
