The Mighty Thor: Godstorm

Once upon a time, the thunder god Thor imprisoned a demon storm beneath the earth. Eventually, this godstorm would be released through the machinations of man, and Thor would be called into one final cataclysmic battle against it. That’s the basic premise of this limited series written by Kurt Busiek (Avengers, Astro City) and drawn by Steve Rude (Nexus), but there are stories within this story: great, lusty tales of derring-do as Thor also does battle with frost giants, trolls, his half-brother Loki, and even rails against the all-father Odin himself. A dead-on homage to the long-ago “Tales of Asgard” stories that ran in the early Journey into Mystery, Busiek has captured the flavor and grandeur of Thor the super-hero and Thor the mythical figure. Most startling, though, is Rude’s art, done in the style of the late Jack Kirby, Thor’s co-creator and original penciller. Fans of the Silver Age god of thunder will appreciate this valentine to that era, even as newer, younger readers will find something fresh and exciting in the tale.
