Ultimate War

Okay, let’s face it: Marvel’s Ultimate line has been wildly successful, so it makes perfect sense for the premiere super-teams of the Ultimate Marvel universe—the Ultimate X-Men and the Ultimates—to clash in this four-issue limited series from writer Mark Millar (The Authority) and artist Chris Bachalo (Generation X). The premise is fairly simple: after a grandiose act of terrorism, Magneto has issued a challenge to humanity—surrender or be crushed by homo superior. Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye begin taking out members of the Brotherhood of Mutants, while Iron Man tries to find Professor Charles Xavier and his X-Men. And when the teams finally come together, the results are explosive.

In the wake of The Authority, the term “widescreen comics” has been bandied about to describe stories with big, over-the-top action—stories with a sense of urgency and grandeur. Millar and Bachalo truly deliver the goods in this series.
