Truth: Red, White & Black

    (Marvel, 2003, 2009)
™ and ©2002 Marvel Characters, Inc.

The Truth received mammoth publicity – and even more controversy – prior to its release. The story’s premise of black soldiers being tested with the super-soldier serum during World War II prior to Steve Rogers, Captain America, angered continuity buffs that felt Marvel Comics was stomping on its rich history merely to acquire newspaper headlines. Nevertheless, the four-issue limited series brought mainstream respectability to comic books once again as well as providing a rare African-American perspective to the war. The book has an ensemble cast that is appropriate to its military setting.
