X-Universe
(Marvel, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc.
X-Universe was one of several mini-series and one-shots pumped onto the stands in 1995 to service Marvel’s sprawling multi-title crossover du jour, The Age of Apocalypse (and perhaps also to feed the perceived market appetite for first issues). X-Universe served as a road crew, filling in potholes in the fifty-lane-wide plot and providing background explanations for the goings-on in the other titles.
X-Universe claims to reveal the fate of the Marvel Universe during the Age of Apocalypse, an alternative history plotline that came about with the premature death of X-Men mentor Professor Xavier and the subsequent enslavement of the world by Apocalypse. X-Universe features Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, Donald Blake, Tony Stark, and Gwen Stacy in non-super-powered roles, but the storyline is, by design, only comprehensible to those who have invested in every issue of the crossover saga.
