This five-issue series follows Ultimate Nightmare and Ultimate Secret to conclude Warren Ellis’ introduction of “Gah Lak Tus” to Marvel’s Ultimate continuity line. In place of Jack Kirby’s stoic giant clad in purple and blue, Ellis substitutes a flotilla of city-sized mechas with a violent abhorrence of organic life. Gah Lak Tus takes a three-pronged approach to planetary destruction: first, heralds wage a devastating psychological war on a planet’s sentient life before releasing a flesh-eating virus to extinguish what’s left. Finally, Gah Lak Tus cracks open the planet itself to feed off energy in the planetary core.

Fortunately, Marvel’s finest in the form of Nick Fury, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier stand ready to thwart this terrible plot using a three-pronged approach of their own. Also featuring Captain America, Iron Man, the Falcon, and Jean Grey, this series introduces Ultimate versions of Misty Knight and Moondragon (Heather Douglas) and presents Gah Lak Tus’ first heralds as a cadre of unnamed silver men. However, no one gets left behind to effectively become the Ultimate version of Norrin Radd.
