Unholy Union
(Image, 2007)
Hulk, Doctor Strange, & Ghost Rider ™ and © 2007 Marvel Characters Inc. Darkness & Witchblade ™ and © Top Cow Productions, Inc.
Another entry into the series of Marvel/Top Cow crossovers, Unholy Union finds the Darkness and Witchblade (but Dani, not Sara, who’s indisposed by pregnancy) facing off against Ghost Rider and the Incredible Hulk. Oh, and Doctor Strange is there too. The plot of the story is relatively loose, but enough to set up a cool fight… and, at the very least, it’s completely reasonable that Ghost Rider would come after the Darkness eventually, assuming that all these characters share the same universe, which this book does. Hulk and Witchblade kind of get caught up in the middle, but… the fight is cool, and the art is sharp, as one would expect from Top Cow.
Interestingly enough, Unholy Union actually ties in to Top Cow’s major 2007, First Born. Doctor Strange’s role in this crossover is to ominously set up this event, and he does a good job; as such, Unholy Union is an unofficial issue zero to First Born, and sets the stage for some major changes to the Top Cow universe, making it an important read as well as a fun one.
