666: The Mark of the Beast

This series’ title seems a bit of a misnomer since the collection of British reprints assembled here doesn’t contain a lot of brimstone and hellfire. Instead, it’s a collection of fine Gothic horror owing more to the Twilight Zone than it does to Faust. In 666, men are turned into sculptures by unethical cryogenicists; drowning men visit with the spirits of women who died ages ago in the same pond; and ghostly planes threaten modern aircraft carriers. Strange? Yes. Weird and supernatural? Certainly. But “The Mark of the Beast?”
