A young, streetwise orphan has his life changed forever when he is adopted by the wealthiest man in town… a fun-loving bachelor whose playboy lifestyle masks his nighttime excursions as a predatory costumed crime-fighter.

Sounds familiar, right? Well, although the story of Hawk Owl and his (soon-to-be) partner Woody may resemble that of a certain Dark Knight on the surface, it thankfully lacks the angst-driven grimness of DC’s Batman. Viewed primarily through the eyes of the young protegé, this lighthearted and often funny series explores the unique relationship between a super-hero and his kid sidekick.

This story is set in the “Ultimate” universe, a line of titles that revamped, unhindered by decades of convoluted continuity, several of Marvel’s most popular titles and characters, including Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and the Ultimates, the back-to-basics version of the Avengers.
