X-Calibre
(Marvel, 1995)

For four issues during Marvel’s 1995 “Age of Apocalypse” crossover, Excalibur ended, replaced by the alternate-reality “X-Calibre.” In this reality, Magneto is one of the good guys, and has recruited a swashbuckling version of Nightcrawler to help him seek out other mutants that might aid their cause. In particular, they seek the fabled land of Avalon, where the mutant Destiny holds the precognitive ability that may be the key to restoring reality and ending the Age of Apocalypse. Along the way, however, he’ll face powerful enemies, including this reality’s version of Angel, now a haughty nightclub owner of a crossroads bar called (appropriately enough) Heaven.
