The Shroud

    (Marvel, 1994)
Marvel

The Shroud first appeared in Super-Villain Team-Up #5, although he has only made sporadic appearances in the years since. This lack of exposure is especially strange given the Shroud’s interesting origin and modus operandi.

The Shroud’s story began when his parents were killed by criminals. He became obsessed with avenging them, and dedicated his life to becoming the best law enforcement agent of his generation. But no mere police job could quell his passion for justice. His search for vengeance led him to the cult of Kali, where he was given occult powers of vengeance—but at a terrible price. His sight was burned away by a branding iron, the mark which emblazons his forehead to this day. In place of his sight, though, he gained the power to sense others around him, and to wield darkness itself as a weapon. He then adopted the guise of being a crimelord himself, luring criminals close to him—then striking them down without warning.
