Chris Claremont returned to his beloved X-Men in this 1999 limited series that stars Shadowcat, Wolverine, and Phoenix in a tale set at some point in the early days of Excalibur. The story finds Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) and Rachel Summers (Phoenix) in Scotland, tossed back in time to the days just before World War II. While there, they—alongside their pal Logan (Wolverine)—come toe-to-toe with some villains. They encounter Nazis—led by Baron Von Strucker, no less—and Professor Xavier’s old foe, the Shadow King. This three-issue limited series is an entertaining romp, reminiscent of the days when Claremont was at the top of his X-game! Cloak & Dagger and Painkiller Jane artist Rick Leonardi’s artwork is top-notch, by the way.
