Abbott & Costello (Charlton)
(Charlton, 1968-1971)
™ and ©1968 Charlton Press, Inc.
This mismatched pair was once well known for their stand-up comedy routines, with the easy-going but dimwitted Lou Costello usually getting under the skin of straightlaced Bud Abbott. Together, they made several movies, starred in their own TV show, and even had their show animated.
Their comic book adventures combine their cartoon shenanigans with their television act, with the two stars often “talking” to the readers as they might talk to a live audience. Published in the late 60s, the writers took advantage of the times, often poking fun at the habits and fashions of hippies.
