Venom: The Madness

Venom is Eddie Brock. You might also say that Venom is an intelligent alien symbiote. The symbiote bonds with Brock, acting as his costume and giving him super-powers. It needs him, but it also has a mind of its own. And in this three-issue mini-series, that mind gives birth to a madness.

Toxic waste had been systematically dumped by Scarmore Industries in the area around Venom’s San Francisco home. The waste was the product of an experiment splicing liquid mercury with a virus that gave it a sort of intelligence. Scarmore had been sued by those affected, and hired thugs (Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy) to silence them. Brock rose to their aid as Venom, and wound up developing a crush on one of the ones he helped, Abby Rubin. This seemed to affect his symbiotic side in a way which almost resembled jealousy. Then Venom fell into a pool of the mercury which mixed with the symbiote. The result was something very strange—and very insane.
