Steve Rogers—Captain America—was the first and perhaps the only real Super Soldier. But even as the Super Soldier formula gave Steve Rogers new life, the formula’s creator was killed. With his death, the secret of the formula was thought lost forever.

The governments of the world tried to recreate the formula, with varying degrees of success. Other Super Soldiers were created: Nomad and an out-of-control killing machine named Nuke. Considered a public relations disaster, both the U.S. and the UK Super Soldier programs were scrapped.

So in England, a Super Soldier test subject named Joseph Hauer, whose memory had been erased to prepare him for the program, was put into indefinite cryogenic sleep. And the years ticked past until the day a malfunction caused the sleeper to awaken…
