The spinoff to Image’s popular Spawn series attempts to marry the Spawn legend with futuristic Gothic horror.

As the legend goes, every 400 years, a new Hellspawn arises. In this future, “a time of damnation given form,” also known as the “Antithesis,” the few remaining humans flee from zombie soldiers and a variety of other random horrors, such as the Dessicator, a creature which sucks all cellular moisture from the living, and a living-dead Catholic Cardinal. Former human soldier Daniel Llanso inexplicably comes back to life as Hellspawn, a skeleton (with muscle) that wreaks vengeance and has to suffer about his existence and memories. The end effect is a grudge-fest among skeletons with claws and machine guns, interspersed with occasional agonized-skull close-ups.
