Aces High (RCP)
(RCP, 1999)

This title reprinted the original Aces High in its original form—albeit at some 25 times the issue price than the original. In any case, it’s a bargain for modern readers. There were six E.C. titles in its “New Direction,” cover-bannered as “an entirely novel and unique reading experience.” The cover of each had a frame with the title on top and an identifying icon down the left side. The “New Direction” was one designed to accommodate the Comics Magazine Association of America’s new Comics Code, though the first issue of each did not carry the Code stamp, and all but one lasted for five issues. The six titles were: Extra!, Impact, MD, Psychoanalysis, Valor—and Aces High.
The stories dealt with aviation combat, and four of the five covers by George Evans showed World War I biplane action. (The fifth featured the Flying Tigers.)
