“The Martian Chronicles” was a collection of short stories from science-fiction master Ray Bradbury. This was one of Bradbury’s most popular books, and the two stories adapted in this special demonstrate why.

This comic starts off with “The Off Season,” the story of a man who established the first hot dog stand on Mars. Fully knowing that location is everything in setting up a business, this man has positioned his stand to sit at a crossroads where hundreds of thousands of new settlers from Earth were to pass. He anticipated great wealth would soon be his—until a visit from a group of ethereal Martians convinced him his luck had turned for the worse.

The second feature is “Kaleidoscope,” a chilling tale of several astronauts flung off into space when their spaceship exploded. Insulated in their suits, each has just enough oxygen to contemplate his fate before death comes.
