Big Blown Baby

    (Dark Horse, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Bill Wray

Face front, true believers! Bill Wray and Robert Loren Fleming’s Big Blown Baby mini-series is a non-stop treat for hardcore comics fans. From Stan Lee’s overwrought prose stylings to Jack Kirby’s gleaming towers of godlike machinery, everything about the famous Marvel Silver Age style is subjected to good-natured, raunchy parody by a couple of guys who clearly know their material inside and out.

BBB features a divine tot, sent to Earth by his omnipotent (though perpetually constipated) father, and adopted by a working-class family. The backup stories offer “Tales from the Voyeur,” “Procreation of the Gods” and “The Men Behind Big Blown Baby,” wherein Wray and Fleming explain their method in a dead-on spoof of Marvel’s own self-promoting features.
