My Little Margie

Margie is the boy-crazed teenage hero of this popular girls’ comic, begun in 1954. Each issue collected three to four amusing stories featuring the title character, a story about one of her friends, and an activity page. (coloring page, etc…), and a center spread which featured three to four extra “fashions” created by the comic’s fans.

As with many other girls’ comics of the day, Charlton solicited contributions from readers of dress designs for Margie to wear. If a dress or costume was selected, the artist would draw Margie actually wearing it. The “clothing designer” was always given credit somewhere on the same page in a caption.
