A Corben Special
(Pacific, 1984)
™ and © 1984 Richard Corben
In this classic Edgar Allen Poe story, a man is called upon to witness the end of his boyhood friend’s family line. Traveling to the desolate and secluded House of Usher, Edgar Arnold becomes a sole witness to a series of bizarre and macabre events. The oppressive and melancholy ambiance of the ancient and decrepit mansion has already begun to take a toll on Roderick and his sister Madeline, and their reluctant visitor is helpless to stop their descent into complete madness. The Usher family’s history of insanity and secret depravities has infused the house and grounds with a palpable evil, and Arnold watches in horror when the corpses of Usher ancestors come to claim their final descendants. He barely escapes with his own life before the mansion itself is utterly destroyed, dragged into the dank waters of the swampy lake as if it had never been.
