Doctor Fate (1st Series)

For over forty years, Kent Nelson has served Order as the mystical being Doctor Fate. Now, however, Kent has grown old and tired and a new Doctor Fate must be chosen. The one called is Eric Strauss, a ten-year-old in a man’s body. Before Eric could assume the mantle of Fate, however, it was stolen by Benjamin Stoner. Stoner had once been a good man, but his compassion had been bled out of him over the years. It was then that Chaos seduced him and turned him into its agent. With the artifacts of Fate in his possession, he seemed utterly unstoppable. Nevertheless, he would be stopped—even though it meant the end of Kent Nelson, the original Doctor Fate.

A major hero DC’s Golden Age, Doctor Fate virtually disappeared until this 1987 mini-series brought him storming back. In doing so, it paved the way for the regular Doctor Fate series which would follow.
