It began in London on a foggy night in April, 1991. Ten monks set sail down the Thames in a slow boat, headed toward Canterbury. They never arrived. Instead, a shadowy group of armed forces gunned down every one of them—and strangely, nobody seemed to know a thing about it.

Three months later, the Pope heads for London to take part in a special summit. For many people in England, the visit dredges up great bitterness, as England had thrown off papal rule at a critical point in its history. We soon discover that a great conspiracy is being plotted, involving age-old religious hatreds, secret societies, and a petty thief named William Barnett…
