Gotham by Gaslight is a fascinating “alternate reality” story that puts the character of Batman back in Gotham City of 1890. In the young city known as Gotham, a winged vigilante has begun stalking criminals. All the while, the greatest villain of the age has begun a similar stalking of the innocent.

That criminal, who referred to himself merely as “Jack” in the taunting notes he sent authorities, has moved his reign of terror from London to Gotham. Soon, the vigilante and the ripper will face off in this turn-of-the-century thriller.
