In 1962, Woody Gelman and Len Brown created a series of bubblegum trading cards full of lurid art and extreme violence—the famous Mars Attacks series. In 1995, Topps released an updated set of cards to go along with the new comic book series, Mars Attacks (Vol. 1). In 1996, Tim Burton released his science fiction comedy of the same name.

Image Comics also jumped on the bandwagon with this four-issue mini-series combining the “what if” premise of the Martians attacking the Image Earth of Gen13, Spawn, Savage Dragon, Witchblade, and more. Heroes and heroines band together to save the Earth.
