Ice Age on the World of Magic: The Gathering

Often, popular comic books lead to trading card sets, since fans of the comic seem to want everything with their favorite characters drawn on it. It is a rare thing indeed when a card series is so immensely popular that it is given its own comic series. Magic: The Gathering cards were so successful in the early 1990s that Armada Comics, a division of Voyager Communications, bought the license to produce comics based on the cult card game.

Ice Age chronicles the adventures of some of the more popular characters from the cards. Those familiar with the card series will recognize the Ruby Mage, the magical spells, the shamans, and the warriors written into the comic series. Ice Age is set in the past, about four millennia before the Gathering.

Although the cards enjoyed a great run, the comics did not fare as well. Ice Age ended after just four issues.
