Seven of Seven

Perfectly normal Japanese school girl Nana likes classmate Yuichi but is too shy to do anything about it. That’s the extent of her problems until a magic gem splits her into seven types: Dynamic, Sexy, Crybaby, Smart, Easygoing, Mean, and Regular.

Naturally this “terrible secret” must be kept at all costs in proper Bewitched/I Dream of Jeanie fashion, at least at first — but halfway through Volume One all the Nanas are enrolled in the same school — eliminating what little situation there is in this supposed comedy.

From then on, it’s just cooking mishaps, hot springs trips, gratuitous panty shots, and even some same-sex groping. (Sexy Nana has unique problem-solving skills.) The antics grow increasingly frantic but produce less and less in the way of laughs. Without real conflict to draw on, there’s nothing for the characters (and I use that word loosely) to overcome, making this one all premise and no payoff.
