Elektra & Wolverine: The Redeemer
(Marvel, 2002)
™ and ©2001 Marvel Characters, Inc.
It seemed like it would be a simple assignment for a master assassin like the ninja–trained Elektra: slip into an unknown man’s heavily guarded high–rise apartment and kill him in his sleep. It might have been simple, but for a witness to her crime: the man’s teenaged daughter. Now Elektra must kill a second person to cover up her crime, but eliminating this girl is problematic. For one thing, she feels a strange, horrifying kinship with the girl, since her own life was shaped (destroyed?) by the killing of her father when she was in college. Moreover, there’s an additional complication in the girl’s new bodyguard, the mutant Wolverine.
Writer Greg Rucka and artist Yoshitaka Amano have created something striking here, as pages of text are interwoven with full–page, full–color paintings that tell a gripping story.
