Writer Jay Faerber and artist Andres Ponce soar through relatively uncharted territory in this 48–page one–shot. While there is nothing revolutionary about a super–hero giving birth to another costumed crimefighter, the mother–daughter team in Firebirds is unique. The Firebirds are Rebecca Reed and her teenage girl Emily. When Rebecca is seriously wounded by her foe Zero, she needs a blood transfusion that only Emily can provide. Consequently, Emily discovers her mom’s secret identity and powers of her own. As Emily learns how to deal with being a super–hero, Rebecca discovers the responsibilities of being a mother in this mix of high adventure and family dynamics.
