Green Lantern/Superman: Legend of the Green Flame

    (DC, 2000)
™ and ©2000 DC Comics

Several years ago, Neil Gaiman (Sandman) wrote a terrific script for the final weekly issue of Action Comics that teamed up Superman and Green Lantern and involved the Phantom Stranger, Deadman, and Blackhawk. Because of a continuity glitch, the story couldn’t be used, but after Gaiman became a big name and the glitch didn’t seem to matter so much, DC decided to publish the tale as a Prestige Format one-shot. Here, the Man of Steel and the Emerald Gladiator pierce the veil between life and death to discover the secret of the green flame. Their journey is given glorious artistic life by the likes of Michael Allred (Madman Adventures), Mark Buckingham (Peter Parker: Spider-Man), Jim Aparo (The Brave and the Bold), Eric Shanower (Age of Bronze), and Matt Wagner (Batman/Grendel).
