This two-issue, intercompany crossover pairs Grifter and Shi in a battle against rogue Japanese industrialist Aritomo Omura, and examines all three characters struggling with what it means to be warriors in a world has no use for warriors anymore.

Omura has devoted his life to ending threats to the sovereignty of Japan and seeks to restore the glory of Nippon by striking at the US with a stolen nuclear weapon. Ana Ishinkawa, trained in the ways of the Kyoto sohei, becomes the embodiment of Shi, Japanese for death, and embarks on a path of revenge following the murder of her family by the yakuza Arashi. And Cole Cash, a member of WildC.A.T.s and former Team 7 operative, disillusioned with the corruption within the intelligence community, adopts the Grifter persona and using his military training and crack shot abilities, strikes out on his own as a mercenary.

All three become soldiers without a war.
