The only way Tarzan, the Lord of the Apes and the lord of Gotham’s jungles could spend time in each other’s realm is through an Elseworlds approach, this one set in the splendor of the art deco era.

The opening of a gallery showcasing newly obtained African artifacts brings a cat-clad princess to Gotham attempting to reclaim the stolen goods. This alarms Bruce Wayne, who funded the gallery and the evil archaeologist who stocked it. Lord Greystoke, in town on other business, stays to help out. Then the story shifts to Africa, where the three try to stop the archaeologist from destroying an entire civilization deep in the jungle.

The story is smooth and faithful to the original spirit of both its central characters. Still, Batman does look weird trooping around the steaming jungle in full Batman garb. Done in four issues by writer Ron Marz and artist Igor Kordey.
