Jesus Comics (Foolbert Sturgeon’s…)

    (Rip Off, 1969-1972)
™ and ©1972 Foolbert Sturgeon and Will Hatcher

This is a black-and-white series with adult language and situations. Jesus Comics is the ultimate “What if…” type of story. The Jesus of this story had originally thought of returning to Earth in order to bring a last judgment upon mankind but now has a “live and let live” attitude. He is traveling the country examining life in the 20th century and maintaining his ideals and simplicity of life in the face of every other stereotype of man, woman, race, and ethnicity that an artist can conceive. His teaching of peace and love is sometimes ignored by people wondering why he isn’t black. The books are wall to wall art with only one advertisement and that for Rip Off Press itself. Themes include such titles as “Jesus Meets the Armed Services” and “Jesus Joins the Academic Community.”
