Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day

File this one as another unnecessary fill-in event. It’s supposed to serve as a bridge between the end of the current Titans and Young Justice titles and the creation of the new Teen Titans and Outsider series, but there isn’t any unfinished business that requires a one-shot, let alone a three-part mini-series.

So far, a lot of disparate elements are tossed out instead of a plot, per se. An odd blue cyborg time-traveling young woman (which bodes no good; the Titans don’t have a good history when it comes to time travelers) appears, while The Titans try hard not to fall butt-backward into a lucrative corporate sponsorship and Young Justice stands around and watches.

Winick does what he can with this sort of filler material, but that isn’t much, and, while Garza’s art is certainly distinctive, it’s also frequently odd and awkward. The opening shot of poor Troia takes the phrase “plastic parts” to a ridiculous new level.
