™ and ©1996 Marvel Characters, Inc. and DC Comics
Assassins was one of twelve titles DC and Marvel published jointly under the Amalgam masthead. Early in 1996, the two companies united to produce a four-issue series in which their characters encountered and were forced to fight each other. Between the third and final issue the two universes merged, resulting in character fusions heretofore unimagined.
Assassins features Dare and Catsai on a mission to kill Enigma Fisk, the corrupt and sadistic mayor of Gotham City. Combining elements of Elektra, Catwoman, Daredevil, and Deathstroke, Assassins was the “bad girl” entry of the Amalgam line, specializing in provocative poses of the title characters. Since this title is meant to see part of a larger history in the Amalgam comic universe, references are made to “previous issues,” and letters of comment on the mocked-up letters page make great play of discussing “previous stories” that were never printed.
