Superman’s Metropolis

™ and ©1996 DC Comics, Inc.

Once upon a time, Jon-Kent had a dream: to build a shining city called Metropolis. It was to be a technological paradise, a Utopia. Alas, Jon-Kent had a partner, Luthor, who was in love with Marta, the same woman Jon-Kent loved. But Marta chose Jon-Kent over Luthor, and Luthor swore to destroy Jon-Kent’s dreams.

Luthor killed Marta, then used technology to gain control of Jon-Kent’s mind. Under his direction, Metropolis became a cruel prison for the countless laborers in the undercity. These workers would toil at their machines until their spirits were crushed, while the rich lived in splendor above. Then one day, a woman from the undercity named Lois visited Clarc-Kent, Jon-Kent’s son. She opened Clarc-Kent’s eyes, and in doing so gave Metropolis a new savior—a superman.

This tale was inspired by Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
