Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Rules of Diplomacy
(Malibu, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Paramount Pictures
Rules of Diplomacy is a unique story about Nog, the young Ferengi who wants to join Starfleet. Nog has come to appreciate the ways of the United Federation of Planets, much to the chagrin of his uncle Quark, who runs the Deep Space Nine tavern. For Quark, a traditional Ferengi, the only worthy goal of life is profit. Nog’s idealism causes him no end of consternation. Still Captain Sisko believes in Nog and decides to give him a job escorting a young Klingon diplomat. In doing so, Nog and the Klingon learn much about each other—and this thing called “diplomacy.”
The unique aspect to this story is that it was co-written by Aron Eisenberg, the actor who portrays Nog on the “Deep Space Nine” television series. This came about because Eisenberg asked the series’ editor why the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine comic didn’t have contain very many appearances of Nog. The editor replied by letting Eisenberg write his own story.
