Spider-Man: Made Men
(Marvel, 1999)
™ and ©1998 Marvel Characters, Inc.
While most super-hero comics tell stories of heroes and villains, relatively few focus on the little people, good and bad, who get caught in the middle of their battles. This Marvel one-shot looks at two such men, lifelong friends Tommy Kavanagh and Paul Falcone, whose chance encounter with the Kingpin leads to their being caught up in a gang war that neither seems likely to survive. One man’s a hood just looking for his big break; the other’s a federal agent trying to do his job and save his friend. Unfortunately, criminals like Hammerhead, Fortunato, and the Kingpin care little about friendship.
Told by veteran reporter Ben Urich, this title features cameos by several well-known heroes and villains, including Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Punisher. But it’s not their story: it’s the story of a full-scale war in the New York City underworld, and the small lives that are torn apart by it. Written by Howard Mackie and drawn by Norman Felchle.
