Eleven or One
(Sirius, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Joseph M. Linsner
Joseph Michael Linsner, best known for his work on Dawn, here tells the story of Laddie Lopez, a New York City artist with a unique talent: he actually gets paid for his work. Laddie received countless telephone calls from agents who wanted to represent him, including his ex-wife. Of course, he turned them all down and decided to represent himself.
The stress of taking the lone route seems to have taken its toll on the young artist. Then one morning, Laddie woke with a second middle finger on his right hand. After convincing himself that he was not dreaming, he talked with all of his friends, one by one. None of them noticed his abnormality, even when he flashed his hand right in front of them. Laddie was inspired by this bizarre turn of events and decided to paint a series of paintings which he titled, Eleven or One. It asked the question: “Eleven parts or one whole?” It became a metaphor for Laddie’s own search for meaning in his life.
