Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures Handbook
(Marvel, 2007)
™ and © 2007 Dabel Brothers Productions, LLC.
Published under Marvel’s Dabel Bros. imprint, the Anita Blake handbook takes roughly the same profile format as The All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, with the major exception that it details characters who are set off in their own universe—that created by author Laurell K. Hamilton for her Anita Blake novels. Since, at present, the comic-book version of this universe is relatively small (with only one mini-series under its belt), this affords the Anita Blake handbook the ability to be a complete look at this particular world (which is where something like the Marvel Handbook is want to fail… something will always get left out). In these pages we can read detailed biographies of every character involved in the Guilty Pleasures comic, as well as read more about the places, organizations, and history of the world Anita inhabits. Although the editor’s introduction to this comic notes that this is a “fantastic guide for Anita fans,” I think that this handbook might better serve as an introduction to people new to the Anita Blake world, those who have come into it simply because it’s adopted the comic-book format.
