Spectrum Comics Previews
(Spectrum, 1983)
™ and ©1982 Spectrum
This black-and-white preview title from Spectrum Comics introduces the Survivors, a bit of space opera from writer/artist Steve Woron. The Survivors are a group of nine Americans who were launched into space to rebuild mankind after the Earth has been destroyed by man’s ignorance. Interestingly enough, these Survivors have super-powers and codenames. They are Compiler (a telepath who is linked to the ship’s computer), Starlight (a solar-charged beauty who happens to be a psychologist), Hunter (a survivalist with no special abilities) and Darkthought (a woman who can control others’ emotions). There’s also the Leech (a surgeon who can absorb bio-kinetic energy), Ariel (a telepath and telekinetic), Drone (a speedster), Force (an atomic-powered engineer), and Lynn Merrill (the one Survivor who…well…didn’t survive). The characters here are somewhat one-note, but Woron’s art is nothing short of gorgeous.
