Cyberpunx

A nice idea that never got finished, Cyberpunx was launched with a bang—and four different covers—but disappeared before a second issue was released.

The story is an intriguing take on the timeworn cyberpunk/Gibson plot. Here, man ventured into virtual reality, and found something lying in wait. The CyberLords broke out of the virtual world and began staking their claim on ours, using nanomachines to launch an unstoppable invasion. Earth was rapidly being chewed apart into neat little squares by the computerized invaders. After exhausting all conventional weapons, a scientist (Dr. Karl Gibson) hit upon the idea of using hackers and video game veterans to fight against the CyberLords.

Although plagued with every hip-sounding bit of cyberspeak the writer could cram in, the story has a certain infectious energy due to its very “video-gameness.”
