The city of Los Angeles has become an open prison for ex-members of the intelligence community. These former spooks are the result of medical experiments designed to prolong their value. Now they are broken toy soldiers living a hollow existence.

Michael Jones is a former British Secret Service operative whose drinking problem made him a liability in the field. An option to remain with MI6 was to volunteer for the “Desolation Test.” This procedure was a year-long torture that was analogous to experiencing death twenty-four hour a day. He was the sole survivor. Now Jones no-longer feels pain or sympathy or love or any human emotion, and he rarely sleeps because of the nightmares. He has become a detective for hire, but limits his availability to those like himself who have been used up and thrown away.

This title is a street level film-noirish adventure that exudes a sense of despondency and despair from the mind of Warren Ellis with art by J. H.
Williams.
