Big Shot

    (Columbia, 1940-1949)
™ and ©1947 Columbia Comic Corporation

Started in 1940, Big Shot Comics was a wide-ranging compendium of humor and adventure strips. Regular features included Ogden Whitney’s heroic Skyman, boxer Joe Palooka, Oriental detective Charlie Chan, and Irish cop Mickey Finn. A slew of lesser features filled out the pages, ranging from the humorous antics of Sparky Watts and Brass Knuckles to the drawn-out romances of Dixie Dugan. A solid middle player in the comics scene, it ran until 1949.
