Blazing West
(ACG, 1948-1952)
™ and ©1950 Michel Publications, Inc.
Series continues in The Hooded Horseman #21
American Comics Group published primarily non-super-hero titles from 1943-1967. Although they did venture into super-heroes with Magicman and Nemesis—and super-hero parody with Herbie, the Fat Fury—during the craze inspired by the Batman TV series of the mid-1960s, ACG stayed the course with funny animal, teen humor, horror, science fiction, adventure, and war comics. ACG’s western offerings were The Hooded Horseman and Blazing West.
Blazing West was an anthology title that ran for twenty-two issues, from 1948-1952, and featured such gun-toting stalwarts as “Injun” Jones, a white man who was a friend to the Apache tribe; Bantam Buckaroo, a young boy billed as “ninety pounds of pure TNT”; Buffalo Belle, a fiery female gunfighter; and the Hooded Horseman, a mysterious, Lone Ranger-type hero who was introduced in issue #14 of the series.
