Peter DeNyse was a detective in the New York City Police Department until he crossed swords with Stephen Timmons. Timmons had been covertly assassinating crooked cops, and DeNyse was determined to expose him. Before that could happen, Timmons sent two gunmen to kill DeNyse. When DeNyse killed them instead, he was charged with excessive force and lost his job. It was all just another case of justice gone wrong.

Even without a badge, DeNyse was determined to make things right for the downtrodden of New York. It was in this role that he encountered Ana Ishikawa (Shi) while battling corrupt police who were having their way with the local prostitutes. The two became lovers, then allies. But while DeNyse seems to revel in the bloody battle, Ana is doing her best to maintain her vow not to kill again.
