War Story: Screaming Eagles

    (DC, 2002)
™ and ©2002 DC Comics, Inc.

One of four stand-alone issues written by the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite Garth Ennis, Screaming Eagles tells the story of some of America’s greatest World War II heroes. Members of the famous Easy Company of the US Army that took part in – and were greatly responsible for – the storming of Omaha Beach on D-Day, the main characters in this story only want a break from the death and destruction that they have experienced ever since parachuting into Normandy. Given yet another assignment that puts the men in harm’s way, four of Easy Company’s soldiers find themselves turn the tables on their oblivious superiors and seat themselves in the lap of commandeered Nazi luxury. Comical and amusing with a dark underside revealing a unique look at the war, the issue is impressively illustrated by the incomparable Dave Gibbons, of Watchmen fame.
