Magneto Ascendant

Hearkening back to the days of their King-sized reprint specials, Marvel released this 1999 gem, a square-bound collection of reprints featuring the Master of Magnetism. These stories are true classics, featuring Magneto stories that might be hard or expensive for today’s fan to track down. First up is a Lee/Kirby classic from X-Men #11, in which the original X-Men battle Magneto, as well as the mysterious Stranger. This tale is followed by a reprint of X-Men #18, the conclusion to a tense two-parter in which Magneto squares off against Iceman (then considered the weak link of the team). The era of the all-new all-different X-Men is represented here, too, in the form of Magneto’s reappearance from Uncanny X-Men #104—a great story by Chris Claremont with art by Dave Cockrum. Rounding out the one-shot is a bit of an oddity: the last issue from the Vision and Scarlet Witch mini-series, in which the identities of Magneto’s long-lost children are finally revealed.
