American aviator Roger Drum survived the crash of his airplane during World War II only to be captured and bullied about by the “Cave People of the Cliffs” in the African Congo’s “Lost Lands of the Dawn World.” He escaped, built up his muscles and introduced the warring factions of the lands to the wonders of arrows and the bow. While rescuing Pha, of the forgotten city of Shareen and queen of the valley people, Drum emptied his last bullets into the brain of a giant reptile, earning himself the name of Thun’da, and became their king.

Thun’da defeated mammoth-riding monkey-men and adopted a sabretooth tiger he called Sabre. An earthquake later opened the valley to greedy hunters and uranium-hungry communists, but all were defeated by Frazetta’s king of the jungle.

Gardner Fox’s stories teamed with Frank Frazetta’s art make Thun’da more than just a Tarzan-wannabe.
