Girls’ Romances was one of the many romance comics that sprung up in the fifties and sixties. At that time, comics still attracted a fairly wide female readership, something the super-hero comics popular today do not.

The stories contained in Girls’ Romances were of the “girl meets boy/girl loses boy/girl gets boy back” (or a suitable replacement) variety. Typical of these was “You Can’t Take Your Love With You,” in which a young woman named Claudia became a camp counselor for a summer in hopes of making her longtime boyfriend (but never fiancé) miss her enough to ask her to marry him. The slow-moving boyfriend eventually does, but only after Claudia has found true love with a fellow camp counselor.

After a run of some two decades, Girls’ Romances finally ended in 1971, victim of the almost complete dominance of super-heroes (and male readers) in the world of comics.
